Description: This shapfile represent locations of car-sharing vehicles from Maven and Zip-Car. Maven is only available in the Los Angeles area whereas Zip-Car operates throughout major cities within the SCAG region. Along with the company name, each point contains the amount of vehicles at each location and a brief description of the area. Car-share programs make cars available to users for short-term rentals. The cars can generally be used by anyone with a valid driver's license and a membership to the program. People can typically sign up for the programs online or through a mobile application, and then use the web or mobile app to find, reserve, and rent a car. Cars are generally located in downtowns, on university campuses, and in other dense, high-demand areas. Car-share programs can be an effective method to provide access to automobiles for people who might not own or otherwise have access to a vehicle, such as students, low income families, or those who do not want to incur the expense of owning a vehicle. The crowd sourcing process will include use of local input from a web mapping application that will display datasets representing the measures outlined in Metro's Transit Supportive Toolkit. The toolkit is a planning resource that specifies different processes local juridictions can implement to encourage transit ridership, active transportation modes, and a susequent reduction in Vehicles Miles Traveled (VMT). By Identifying the areas where these processes are taking place or underway, SCAG will be able to quantify the associated reduction in VMT in the "Local Input" base case as well as any potential scenarios.
