Description: This dataset represents the mainline rail network within the SCAG region, derived from the North American Rail Network (NARN) dataset maintained by the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) and part of USDOT’s National Transportation Atlas Database (NTAD). It includes key attributes such as right-of-way ownership, freight and passenger rail operators, and commuter rail operators. The dataset provides a snapshot of the mainline rail system for Connect SoCal 2024 (RTP/SCS 2024) to support regional goods movement and transportation planning, including LA28 preparations. Because rail networks change over time, it is subject to updates and should be used for planning purposes only, not for permitting or site-specific decisions.
