Counties are primary legal divisions of states. In California, the Census Bureau cooperatively delineate these census areas for statistical purposes. Each county has a 3-character FIPS code that is unique within a state, and an 8-character ANSI code. The FIPS code for the state of California is 06. The FIPS codes for the SCAG counties are the following: Imperial = 025; Los Angeles = 036; Orange =059; Riverside = 65; San Bernardino = 071; and Ventura = 111. The county layer data was downloaded from the US Census and projected and extracted for the SCAG region. In addition, it was clipped for cartographic purposes. SCAG REGION 2020 CENSUS GEOGRAPHIES provides more detailed information on the layer and coding system like CLASSFP and FUNCSTAT codes and their descriptions.
